Hello

DAWN ROE - 'THE BALANCE MENTOR'.

DAWN's Story

After 30 years as an NHS physiotherapist, I retrained as a fitness instructor because I wanted to help people who felt disconnected from exercise - whether through illness, injury, loss of confidence, or simply the pressures of busy lives. In 2023, I became a Level 4 Postural Stability Instructor. Since then, I’ve been helping adults 55+ regain strength, confidence, and independence through progressive strength and balance exercises.

My mission is simple: progressive strength and balance, built for real life - so adults 55+ feel confident in their bodies, stay independent, and keep doing what matters most to them.

And the bigger picture that matters to me - my vision - is:
A future in which increasing numbers of older adults are strong, steady, and independent. They are actively involved in their local and wider communities, contributing their wisdom and life experience with energy, purpose, and joy.

Real results, in real life

These exercises are already making a difference in my local classes. People have noticed better balance, improved strength, and an overall lift in wellbeing (see the testimonials). Some have returned to favourite activities. Others continue coming because they value the slower pace, clear structure, and supportive environment of these sessions.

I’m constantly inspired by what attendees share:

  • What they want to be able to do

  • The difficulties they face

  • The discoveries they make as they practise

  • The benefits they notice over weeks of consistent participation

Often, people are just a few well-chosen exercises away from the life they want to live. Taking an active role in their physical fitness - mobility, stamina, strength, and balance - can be both empowering and genuinely joyful.

Why I’m moving online

Demand for in-person classes is growing, and I’m aware that I’m running out of hours to meet it. At the same time, many people can’t get to classes due to transport challenges, access issues, or frequent hospital appointments. Moving online is the logical next step - so more people can benefit, wherever they are, at a time that suits them.

Community is part of the medicine

One of the most remarkable parts of this work is the community that forms around it: supportive, interested, and a resource in its own right. In a short time, I’ve seen charity events supported, lifts shared, and social connections re-established. And the stories they share help others feel seen, feel connected, and remember who they are - and what they are still capable of achieving. And, last but not least, there is laughter, a lot of laughter.

The training I completed with Later Life Training was excellent - hard graft and completely worth it. This website is one of the ways I’m making this approach more accessible: for the people who need it now, and for the trainers of the future.
