Why I Am Taking This Online

Local services can change, travel is not always easy, and the right class is not always nearby. That is why I am building an online, progressive FaME-based strength and balance programme: a structured, specialist course designed to improve strength, balance, confidence, and everyday function over time.



It is becoming increasingly clear that access to good support cannot always depend on local provision alone. Funding can shift, classes can stop, and support that once felt secure may no longer be there in the same way.


At the same time, many people still need appropriate strength and balance training, yet face real barriers to attending in person.


Sometimes the right class is not nearby:

  • travel is difficult

  • confidence is low

  • people want something more purposeful than simply being told to “keep moving”.


These are reasons I am now putting serious attention into building my online FaME-based strength and balance programme.


Why online matters

There is no shortage of exercise videos online.

What is much harder to find is a properly structured programme, Something with:

  • a clear starting point

  • sensible progressions

  • familiar routines

  • enough repetition to learn well

  • enough challenge to create change

the differences that matter.


Real progress does not usually come from dipping into random sessions and hoping for the best.


It comes from following something built with care, repeated often enough to become useful, and progressed in a sensible way over time.


Not just a drop-in class

This will not be a random drop-in class, And it will not be endless variety for the sake of it.


It is being designed as a specialist, progressive course for adults who want to improve strength, balance, confidence, and day-to-day function in a clear and purposeful way.


That means more than simply "doing some exercise".


The STEPS approach behind it

This programme is being built around my STEPS approach: a simple, progressive way of helping people rebuild strength, balance, and confidence safely and purposefully.

That means:

  • Safety first — starting at the right level, with the right support

  • Train balance — practising balance as a skill

  • Everyday strength — building strength that transfers into real life

  • Progress — moving forwards in a sensible, structured way

  • Steps to bounce back — helping people adjust, recover, and keep going



It means working on the right things, in the right order, at the right level.


Strength for stairs, chairs, carrying, and getting on with daily life.


Balance for turning, stepping, recovering, and moving with more control.


Confidence for trusting the body more and feeling more capable in daily life.


Why structure matters

Not all strength and balance classes are the same.


Many use those words, but not all are built as a progressive programme. Not all are designed to improve day-to-day function in a structured, measurable, and meaningful way.


My work is moving more clearly towards a progressive, structured, FaME-based approach for people who want more than general activity alone.


I want this online offer to reflect what I value most in teaching:

  • clarity

  • structure

  • sensible progressions

  • familiar routines

  • and exercise that transfers into real life


It is also important to me that progress can be seen and not simply hoped for. That is where appropriate measures and trackers have value. Used well, they help show where someone is starting, what is changing, what needs adjusting, and how confidence and function are improving over time.


They also provide useful before-and-after evidence for participants and, where appropriate, for clinicians, referrers, and service partners.


Personal, purposeful, and effective

Done properly, online does not have to mean impersonal.


It can still be thoughtful, purposeful, and effective. It can still offer progression, accountability, and a clear pathway forwards.


That is what I am building now: a specialist course for people who want to feel steadier, stronger, and more confident in a way that makes sense and builds over time.
